FSAD 3370 Intro to Knit Textile Structure and Design
There are three projects in 3370. The first is a technical swatch book. Students choose one picture to use as color and texture inspiration for all of their swatches. This project will familiarize students with a variety of knit structures chosen to demonstrate the behavior of various stitch combinations. They learn stitch notation for each structure and must accompany each swatch with a tech sheet that clarifies machine settings, gauge and stitch notation. The second project takes students through the steps of creating a knit garment, beginning with design research and swatch exploration, to schematic drawings, patterns, garment panel shaping, and construction. The third project introduces students to knit programming for the Shima Seiki electronic industrial knitting machine.
