I am an Interdisciplinary Artist, Textile Designer, and Author/Illustrator. I was born in Beaufort, SC. My mom, Barbara Jones was a war widow. My father, Joseph Wester Jones III had been a fighter pilot in the Vietnam War. When I was 6 months, my Mom married. Pat Conroy who became my father when he adopted my older sister and me. I learned that being an artist was a thing that could be done from him. I think the mystery and missing piece of my biological father has informed my work as an artist as well. The notion of weight and weightlessness, of something that is just out of reach, and the fragility of our bodies are common themes I recognize in my work. I draw, paint, knit, and explore other textile media such as printing and dyeing on fabric. My interest in knit structure has led to a collaborative project that explores using knit fabrics to harness sound. I received an Independent Project Grant from The Architectural League of New York and NYSCA with electronic musician, Anthony Dicembre to work with dancers, musicians and multi-media artists to learn how sound harnessing textiles can be used as media. In addition to being an artist, I am a Sr. Lecturer in the Department of Human Centered Design at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY where I teach textile design courses including Color & Surface Design of Textiles, Knit Structure & Design, and Knitwear Design.
