FSAD 3370 Intro to Knit Textile Structure and Design

Garment Construction

Students in 3370 learn the steps needed to go from design direction and swatch exploration to the creation of garments. This includes determining gauge, fashioning (increasing and decreasing), flechage (partial knitting), sketching, draping, the creation of schematic drawings, the writing of a knit pattern for hand machines, or the programming of garment panels for the Shima Seiki SRY 123 machine, and finally linking the garment panels together. For the Spring of 2022, we switched to knitting garment panels on hand flat machines rather than the Shima Seiki. The examples below will note whether the garment was knitted on the Shima Seiki, or one of the hand flat machines.
